The Garuda Purana has an important place in the Puranas, because first and foremost Lord Vishnu had narrated this 'Garuda Mahapuran', which tells the essence and great meaning of all the scriptures to the God Deveshwar, Lord Rudradev, including Brahma and other gods.
Once, in the context of pilgrimage, Mahatma Sutji, a well-versed in all scriptures, came to Naimiyaranya, there Shaunkadi sages worshiped him and asked some questions in the form of curiosity. In resolving the questions, Sutji narrated the story of Garuda Mahapuran to those sages and sages. Sutji had heard this story from Lord Vyasji, Vyasji received this story from Father Brahma. In fact, originally this Mahapuran was narrated by Gardji to Rishi Kashyap.
In ancient times, Pakshiraj Garud worshiped Lord Vishnu through penance on earth, so that the Lord, being satisfied, asked him to ask for the desired boon. Garuda requested the Lord that the serpents have made my mother Binata a slave. Hey, God! May you be pleased and grant me this boon that I may be able to obtain nectar by winning them and free the mother of the serpents from the bondage of Kadu. May I become your vehicle and be able to destroy the serpents and as the author of the Puranahita. Please do the same.

प्राचीनकालमें पृथ्वोपर पक्षिराज गरुडने तपस्याके द्वारा भगवान् विष्णुको आराधना की, जिससे संतुष्ट होकर प्रभुने अभीष्ट वर माँगनेके लिये कहा। गरुड़ने भगवान्मे निवेदन किया कि नागोंने मेरी माता बिनताको दासी बना लिया है। हे देव! आप प्रसन्न होकर मुझे यह वरदान प्रदान करें कि मैं उनको जीतकर अमृत प्राप्त करने में समर्थ हो सके और माँको नागोंकी माता कदुको दासतासे मुक्त करा सक। मैं आपका वाहन बने और नागोंको विदीर्ण करने में समर्थ हो सक तथा जिस प्रकार पुराणहिताका रचनाकार हो सकूँ. वैसा ही करने की कृपा करें।
