She lived there with her parents and two brothers. Malala started attending school early as her father ran a school there. Malala was very fast in studies.

When the Taliban, a group of religious extremists who took power in the Swat Valley, prevented girls from going to school, Malala asked her father, "Why don't they want girls to go to school?"

"Are they afraid of the pen?" His father replied.

When Malala was only eleven years old, she raised her voice publicly for the first time about the importance of education for girls. Even as the Taliban became more aggressive, Malala continued to speak. The series of threats continued, but still the Taliban could not stop Malala from speaking. Finally, when Malala was going to the school van, a Taliban soldier fired a shot at Malala, going through her head and neck and ramming into her shoulder, Malala was treated in several hospitals. She eventually recovered at Queen Elizabeth Hospital Birmingham in England. Now Malala lives there with her family.

Malala received several awards for bravery, including the International Children's Peace Prize (runner-up), the Pakistan National Youth Peace Prize, the Mother Teresa Memorial International Prize for Social Justice and the Rome Prize for Peace and Humanity. In 2013 he received a Nobel Peace Prize.

Malala continued to speak out against injustice.

मलाला का जन्म पाकिस्तान की स्वात घाटी के छोटे से शहर मिंगोरा में हुआ. वो वहां अपने माँ-पिता और दो भाईयों के साथ रहती थी. मलाला ने जल्दी ही स्कूल जाना शुरू कर किया क्योंकि उसके पिता वहां एक स्कूल चलाते थे. मलाला पढ़ाई में बहुत तेज़ थी.

जब धार्मिक चरमपंथियों के समूह तालिबान ने स्वात घाटी में सत्ता हासिल की तब उन्होंने लड़कियों को स्कूल जाने से रोका मलाला ने अपने पिता से पूछा, "वे क्यों नहीं चाहते कि लड़कियां स्कूल जाएं?"

"वे कलम से डरते हैं?" उसके पिता ने जवाब दिया.

जब मलाला केवल ग्यारह वर्ष की थी, तब उसने पहली बार सार्वजनिक रूप से लड़कियों के लिए शिक्षा के महत्व के बारे में अपनी आवाज बुलंद की. जब तालिबान अधिक आक्रामक हुए, तब भी मलाला ने अपना बोलना जारी रखा. धमकियों का सिलसिला जारी रहा, पर फिर भी तालिबान मलाला को बोलने से नहीं रोक पाए. अंत में जब मलाला स्कूल वैन में जा रही थी तब एक तालिबानी फौजी ने मलाला पर गोली चलाई गोली उसके सिर और गर्दन से होते हुए उसके कंधे में जाकर धंसी, मलाला का कई अस्पतालों में इलाज हुआ. अंत में इंग्लैंड में क्वीन एलिजाबेथ अस्पताल बर्मिंघम में वो ठीक हुई. अब मलाला वहीं अपने परिवार के साथ रहती है.

मलाला को बहादुरी के लिए कई पुरस्कार मिले, जिसमें अंतरराष्ट्रीय बाल शांति पुरस्कार (उपविजेता), पाकिस्तान राष्ट्रीय युवा शांति पुरस्कार, सामाजिक न्याय के लिए मदर टेरेसा मेमोरियल अंतर्राष्ट्रीय पुरस्कार और शांति और मानवता के लिए रोम पुरस्कार शामिल हैं. 2013 में उसे एक नोबेल शांति पुरस्कार मिला.
