गत अध्याय में ग्रन्थकार ने अपने मौलिक ग्रन्थ श्री साई सच्चरित्र (मराठी भाषा) में उन कारणों पर प्रकाश डाला था. जिनके द्वारा उन्हें ग्रन्थरचना के कार्य को आरम्भ करने की प्रेरणा मिली। अब वे ग्रन्थ पठन के योग्य अधिकारियों तथा अन्य विषयों का इस अध्याय विवेचन करते हैं।

ग्रंथ लेखन का हेतु

किस प्रकार विषूचिका ( हैजा) के रोग के प्रकोप को आटा पिसवाकर तथा उसको ग्राम के बाहर फेंककर रोका तथा उसका उन्मूलन किया, बाबा की इस लीला का प्रथम अध्याय में वर्णन किया जा चुका है। मैंने और भी लीलाएँ सुनीं, जिनसे मेरे हृदय को अति आनंद हुआ और यही आनन्द का स्त्रोत काव्य (कविता) रुप में प्रकट हुआ। मैंने यह भी सोचा कि इन महान आश्चर्यजनक लीलाओं का वर्णन बाबा के भक्तों के लिये मनोरंजक एवं शिक्षाप्रद सिद्ध होगा तथा उनके पाप समूल नष्ट हो जाऐंगे। इसलिए मैंने बाबा की पवित्र जीवन गाथा और मधुर उपदेशों का लेखन प्रारम्भ कर दिया। श्री साई की जीवनी न तो उलझनपूर्ण है और न संकीर्ण ही है, वरन् सत्य और आध्यात्मिक मार्ग का वास्तविक दिग्दर्शन कराती है।
