श्रीरामचरितमानसका स्थान हिंदी साहित्य में ही नहीं, जगत् के साहित्य में निराला है। इसके जोड़का, ऐसा ही सर्वाङ्गसुन्दर, उत्तम काव्यके लक्षणोंसे युक्त, साहित्यके सभी रसोंका आस्वादन करानेवाला, काव्यकलाकी दृष्टिसे भी सर्वोच्च कोटिका तथा आदर्श गार्हस्थ्य-जीवन, आदर्श राजधर्म, आदर्श पारिवारिक जीवन, आदर्श पातिव्रतधर्म, आदर्श भ्रातृधर्मके साथ-साथ सर्वोच्च भक्ति- ज्ञान, त्याग, वैराग्य तथा सदाचारकी शिक्षा देनेवाला, स्त्री-पुरुष, बालक-वृद्ध और युवा - सबके लिये समान उपयोगी एवं सर्वोपरि सगुण साकार भगवान्की आदर्श - मानवलीला तथा उनके गुण, प्रभाव, रहस्य तथा प्रेमके गहन तत्त्वको अत्यन्त सरल, रोचक एवं ओजखी शब्दोंमें व्यक्त करनेवाला कोई दूसरा ग्रन्थ हिंदी भाषामें ही नहीं, कदाचित् संसारकी किसी भाषामें आजतक नहीं लिखा गया। यही कारण है कि जिस चावसे गरीब-अमीर, शिक्षित-अशिक्षित, गृहस्थ संन्यासी, स्त्री-पुरुष, बालक-वृद्ध–सभी श्रेणीके लोग इस ग्रन्थरत्नको पढ़ते हैं, उतने चावसे और किसी ग्रन्थको नहीं पढ़ते तथा भक्ति, ज्ञान, नीति, सदाचारका जितना प्रचार जनतामें इस ग्रन्थसे हुआ है उतना कदाचित् और किसी ग्रन्थसे नहीं हुआ ।
