Some Excerpts From the Book Ayurveda Hitopdesh
By writing this book named “Ayurveda Hitopadesh”, Vaidya Ranjit Raiji has done a great favor to Ayurvedic students and teachers. Rigveda is very ancient in the entire Vedic literature. Vaidya Ranjit Raiji has authored this essay titled "Ayurvedic Hitopadesh" by selecting all those Vaktarats that he found most suitable for the study of Ayurveda. By studying this essay, students will have great ease in the study of Ayurveda.
Knowledge of Sanskrit is necessary for the revelation of Ayurveda, it is universally agreed. In this way, not only Ayurveda, even the Vedas have been translated into foreign languages and with their help, the subjects propounded in these can be known; however, it is always possible that translations may reflect the thoughts and understanding of the translator. Therefore, it is considered more appropriate to read the texts in the original language as far as possible in Vidya and Kalamatra. This truth is special in Ayurveda.
To enable the students to understand the original texts themselves, either their Sanskrit knowledge should be of excellent quality or there should be a Sanskrit in the text subjects or they should be taught only by keeping the original texts of Ayurveda in front, these are alternative measures. Due to the involvement of Western medicine in the curricular subjects, it has become necessary to take the students after acquiring the basic knowledge of that subject. As a result, the first option has not been feasible. The last third option is also not possible due to the fact that the curriculum has now become subject-oriented, so it has become preferable to rely on the corresponding lectures and textbooks. Since the remaining second option is feasible, Sanskrit has been kept as a subject in the syllabus everywhere.
In this way, texts like Hitopadesha, Panchatantra, Dashkumarcharit, Shakuntal etc. have been prescribed in the Sanskrit subject of the syllabus. These texts are often incomprehensible to the students, due to their lack of direct relation with Ayurveda, both the student and the teacher are often not interested in their study and teaching.

आयुर्वेदीय हितोपदेश पुस्तक के कुछ अंश
“आयुर्वेदीय हितोपदेश" नाम की यह पुस्तक लिखकर वैद्य रणजितरायजी ने आयुर्वेदीय छात्रों तथा अध्यापकों का बड़ा उपकार किया है। सम्पूर्ण वैदिक साहित्य में अत्यन्त प्राचीन ऋग्वेद है। उस ऋग्वेद से लेकर अद्ययावत् जो आयुर्वेदीय साहित्य उपलब्ध है, उस सब साहित्य का आलोडन और मन्थन करके उसमें से जो वाक्यरत्न आयुर्वेद के अध्ययन के लिए अत्यन्त उपयुक्त उन्हें प्राप्त हुए, उन सब को चुनकर वैद्य रणजितरायजी ने इस "आयुर्वेदीय हितोपदेश” नामक निबन्ध को ग्रंथित किया है। इस निबन्ध के अध्ययन से छात्रों को आयुर्वेद के अध्ययन में बड़ी सुगमता होगी।
आयुर्वेद के रहस्यवबोधन के लिये संस्कृत का ज्ञान आवश्यक है, यह सर्ववादिसंमत है। यों आयुर्वेद के ही नहीं, वेदों तक के देशी-विदेशी भाषाओं में अनुवाद हो चुके हैं और उनकी सहायता से इनमें प्रतिपादित विषयों को जाना जा सकता है; तथापि यह सर्वदा संभव है कि अनुवादों में अनुवादक के विचारों और समझ की छाप आ जाय। अतएव विद्या और कलामात्र में यथाशक्य ग्रन्थों को मूल भाषा में पढ़ना अधिक उपयुक्त समझा जाता है। आयुर्वेद पर यह सच्चाई सविशेष घटित होती है।
विद्यार्थी स्वयं मूल ग्रन्थों को समझ सके इस निमित्त या तो उनका संस्कृत ज्ञान उत्तम कोटि का होना चाहिए या पाठ्य विषयों में एक संस्कृत हो या फिर उन्हें आयुर्वेद के मूल-ग्रन्थों को सामने रखकर ही पढ़ाया जाय, ये वैकल्पिक उपाय हैं। पाठ्य विषयों में प्रायः पाश्चात्य चिकित्सा भी अन्तर्भावित होने से उस विषय का आधारभूत ज्ञान ग्रहण किए विद्यार्थी लेना आवश्यक हो गया है। परिणामतया, प्रथम विकल्प शक्य नहीं रहा है। अन्तिम तृतीय विकल्प भी इस कारण शक्य नहीं है कि पाठ्यक्रम अब विषय-प्रधान हो गया है अतः तदनुरूप व्याख्यानों और पाठ्य ग्रन्थों का ही अवलम्बन करना श्रेयस्कर हो गया है। शेष द्वितीय विकल्प ही साध्य होने से सर्वत्र पाठ्यक्रम में संस्कृत एक विषय के रूप में रखा गया है।
इस प्रकार पाठ्यक्रम के अंगभूत संस्कृत विषय में हितोपदेश, पञ्चतन्त्र, दशकुमारचरित, शाकुन्तल आदि ग्रन्थ निर्धारित किये गये हैं। ये ग्रन्थ विद्यार्थियों के लिए प्रायः दुर्बोध होने से अपरंच इनका साक्षात् सम्बन्ध आयुर्वेद से न होने से इनके अध्ययन और अध्यापन में विद्यार्थी और अध्यापक दोनों की रुचि प्रायः नहीं होती।
