It has the highest place in the visions; Because in this the supreme attainable and ultimate effort of life has been rendered. Almost all the principal Pravan Acharyas of all the sects have written commentaries on the Brahmasutra and all have expressed their desire to tell their respective principles as the proposition of this Granya. This also indicates the importance of this book and its respect among scholars. Brahmasutra has a prominent place in Prasthanatrayi.

महर्षि वेदव्यासरचित ब्रह्मसूत्र बडा ही महत्त्वपूर्ण ग्रन्थ है। इसमें थोड़े-से शब्दों में परब्रह्मके स्वरूपका सानेपा निरूपण किया गया है, इसीलिये इसका नाम 'ब्रह्मसूत्र' है। यह ग्रन्य वेदके चरम सिद्धान्तका निदर्शन कराता है, अतः इसे 'वेदान्त-दर्शन' भी कहते है। वेदके अन्त या शिरोभाग–ब्राह्मण, आरण्यक एवं उपनिषद्के सूक्ष्म तत्त्वका दिग्दर्शन कराने के कारण भी इसका उक्त नाम सार्थक है। वेदके पूर्वभागको श्रुतियोंमे कर्मकाण्डका विषय है, उसकी समीक्षा आचार्य जैमिनि पूर्वमीमांसा-सूत्रोंमे की है। उत्तरभागकी श्रुतियोंमें उपासना एवं ज्ञानकाण्ड है। इन दोनोकी मीमांसा करनेवाले वेदान्त-दर्शन यां ब्रह्मसूत्रको 'उत्तर मीमांसा' भी कहते हैं। दर्शनों में इसका स्थान सबसे ऊँचा है; क्योंकि इसमें जीबके परम प्राप्य एवं चरम पुरुषार्थका प्रतिपादन किया गया है । प्रायः सभी सम्प्रदायोंके प्रधान प्रवान आचार्योंने ब्रह्मसूत्रपर भाष्य लिखे हैं और सबने अपने-अपने सिद्धान्तको इस ग्रन्यका प्रतिपाद्य बतानेकी चेत्र की है। इससे भी इस ग्रन्थकी महत्ता तथा विद्वानों में इसकी समादरणीयता सूचित होती है। प्रस्थानत्रयीमें ब्रह्मसूत्रका प्रधान स्थान है।
