From the introductory point of view, there is no historical material available in relation to Ashokmaral, only it is known from certain places of Nrityadhyaya that Ashokamal's father's name was Veerasingh. नृतयाध्याय पुस्तक के कुछ अंश
ग्रन्थ के अन्तमदिय के आधार पर यह सिद्ध होता है कि अगोकमाल एक राजा था नृत्याध्याय के कतिपर स्थड़ो पर उसने स्वयं ही अपने नाम का उल्लेख किया है ( यथा ५६४, ९४५, १०१८, १०६४,१०७७ ओ १२७२ आदि ) । अपने लिए उसने अनेक प्रकार के विशेषणों का प्रयोग किया है, जिनके आधार पर उसक राजा होना सिद्ध होता है। स्वयं को उसने अशो पृथ्वी (४६), अशोक मल्लेन भूभुजा (८०, १०७ १८८, ३३९, ३९९ नया १५९७), अशो रुमल्ली नृपापणी (२१, ५४५, ८८५ तथा १५१९ आदि) और नुपाशोकमल्लेन (१२९४, १३२७ एवं १४८९ आदि) राजपदवाच्च विशेषणों से अभिहित किया है। राजा होने के साथ ही उसने अपने को श्रीमान् ( ४६, ५२६ ) आर विदुषा पर ( ४२४) भी है। अपने लिए उनने विशेष सम्मानजनक पदवियों एवं गौरवशाली पर्यात का भी उस किया है, जा कि ६९५, ७०७, ९७३ १०८८, १२०८ और १२१२ आदि श्लोकों में दुष्टव्य है ।
परिचयात्मक दृष्टि से अशोकमरल के सम्बन्ध में किमी भा प्रकार की ऐतिहासिक सामग्री उपलब् नही हे नृत्याध्याय के कतिपय स्थलों से केवल इतना ज्ञात होता है कि अशोकमल्ल के पिता का नाम वीरसिह था। बीसिह भी राजपद पर आसीन हुआ, ऐसा उल्लेख नही मिलता है। किन्तु अशोकमल द्वारा अपने लिए प्रवी सहसुन ( ३३८, ८०१४६५), वीना ( ३९८ ८८६, २०१३), वीरसिहात्मन (८८९, १०४१), बीरीसह (९१३, २०४८, १३०६) नन्दन (१५३७) आदि उलेखो ने स्पष्ट है कि उसके पिता का नाम वीरमिह या
अशोक मल्ल कहाँ का राजा था ओर उसका स्थितिकाल गया था, इस सम्बन्ध मे किसी प्रकार की कोई ऐतिहासिक सामग्री उपलब्ध नहीं है, किन्तु उन्होंने अपने ग्रन्थ में जिन आचार्यों का उल्लेख किया है उसने ऐसा प्रतीत होता है कि वे १४दी, १५वी गती ई० के आम-पान हुए। ऐमा ज्ञात होता है कि वे क्षत्रिय वशोद्मव ये और दर्निंग-मप भारत के निवानी नवगीत के वे पारगत विद्वान् वे और अन्य कलाओ मे भी निगान थे। विद्वान् होने के साथ ही वे विप्रिय भी थे।
