तत्र कन्या हस्तेन षोडशहस्तपरिमितं मण्डपं विधाय, तद् दक्षिणस्यां दिशि पश्चिमां दिशमा श्रित्य मण्डपसंलग्नमुत्तराभिमुखं कौतुकागारं विदध्यात्।
घर के प्रांगन में लड़की' के सोलह हाथ ज़मीन मापकर चौकोन मण्डप' बनाए यानी ( चार हाथ लम्बा और चार हाथ चौड़ा) उस मण्डप के दक्षिण की तरफ पश्चिममें, यानी नैऋत्य कोण में मण्डप के साथ उत्तर की तरफ है मुख जिसका ऐसा कौतुकागार बनावे ।
मण्डपाद् बहि-रैशान्यां दिशि जामातृचतुर्ह - स्तपरिमितां सिकतादिपरिष्कृतां तुषकेशशर्करा दिरहितां शून्य वेणुनिर्मितां आम्रपत्रादिशोभितां सुवस्त्राच्छादितां वेदीं च कारयेत् ।
मडण्प' से बाहर ईशान कोण में यानी ( पूर्व और उत्तर के मध्य की कोण में) वर के चार हाथ के बराबर जमीन मापकर (यानी एक हाथ लम्बी और एक हाथ चौड़ी) साफ रेत की बनी हुई, तिनके, बाल और कंकरों से रहित, लाठियों से बनी हुई, ग्राम के पत्तों से सजी हुई और सुन्दर वस्त्र के चंदोये से ढकी हुई वेदी को बनाए ।
विवाहदिने कृतनित्यक्रियेण जामातृपित्रादौ मातृपूजापूर्वकं आभ्युदयिकं कर्तव्यं कन्या पिता च शुचिः स्नात्वा शुक्लांबरधरः कृतनित्यक्रियो मातृपूजाभ्युदयिकं कुर्यात् ।
विवाह के दिन नित्य क्रिया ( सन्ध्या और अपने इष्टदेव का पूजन) करके दामाद के पिता को सबसे पहले गौर्यादि षोडशमातृकाओं के पूजन के बाद नान्दीमुख श्राद्ध करना चाहिये । कन्या का पिता शौचादि से पवित्र हो स्नान कर, शुद्ध वस्त्रों को धारण कर सन्ध्योपासन आदि नित्य कर्मों को करके षोडश मातृपूजा के बाद नान्दीमुख श्राद्ध करे ।
श्रथ मर्हण वेलायां मण्डपे यजमानः सपत्नो क उत्तरमुखउपविश्य कुशासने वरः प्राङ्मुख उपविश्य आचम्य, स्वस्तिवाचनं कृत्वा प्रतिज्ञा संकल्पं कारयेत् ।
इसके बाद लग्न के समय लड़की का पिता अपनी स्त्री' के साथ उत्तर की ओर मुख करके कुशा के ग्रासन पर बैठे और वर पूर्व को ओर मुख करके बैठे, आचमन करें। स्वस्ति वाचन के बाद यजमान प्रतिज्ञा संकल्प करो, इसके बाद वर भी प्रतिज्ञा संकल्प करे ।
