There are two paths of yoga-sadhana - one is the Dakshina Marga, the other is the Left Marga. The basis of the Vam Marg is this- "by transferring the energy residing in the bodies of other beings from here to there, a particular amount of energy should be stored at one place and that power should be used arbitrarily."

योग-साधना के दो मार्ग हैं- एक दक्षिण मार्ग, दूसरा वाम मार्ग । दक्षिण मार्ग का आधार यह है-"विश्वव्यापी ईश्वरीय शक्तियों को आध्यात्मिक चुंबकत्व से खींचकर अपने में धारण किया जाए, सतोगुण को बढ़ाया जाए और अंतर्जगत में अवस्थित पंच कोश, सप्त प्राण, चेतना चतुष्टय, षटचक्र एवं अनेक उपचक्रों, मात्रिकाओं, ग्रंथियों, भ्रमरों, कमलों, उपत्यिकाओं को जाग्रत करके आनंददायिनी अलौकिक शक्तियों का आविर्भाव किया जाए।

वाम मार्ग का आधार यह है- "दूसरे प्राणियों के शरीरों में निवास करने वाली शक्ति को इधर से उधर हस्तांतरित करके एक जगह विशेष मात्रा में शक्ति संचित कर ली जाए और उस शक्ति का मनमाना उपयोग किया जाए।"

तांत्रिक साधनाओं की कार्यपद्धति इसी आधार पर चलती है।
