वेद और राजनीतिशास्त्र- मनु का यह कथन उपयुक्त है कि- 'सर्वज्ञानमयो हि - २. ७) अर्थात् वेदों में सभी विद्याओं के सूत्र विद्यमान हैं। वेदों में राजनीतिशास्त्र (मनु. से संबद्ध सैकड़ों मन्त्र है। इनमें राज्य के प्रति राजा के कर्तव्य, राजा प्रजा के संबन्ध राष्ट्र का स्वरूप, सभा समिति और विदथ की स्थापना, विधान और विधिनिर्माण, राजा का निर्वाचन, राज्याभिषेक, युद्ध, सैन्य व्यवस्था, विविध शस्त्रास्त्र, अर्थव्यवस्था, शासन प्रणाली आदि का संक्षिप्त वर्णन है। उपर्युक्त प्रायः सभी विषयों पर आवश्यक सामग्री उपलब्ध है। उसका ही इस ग्रन्थ में आलोचनात्मक अध्ययन प्रस्तुत किया गया है।
