Maharishi Ved Vyas was born at the end of Dwapar Yuga. He was the great-grandson of Maharishi Vashistha and grandson of Sage Shakti. His father was Parashar Muni and mother Satyavati. He is also known as Krishna Dapayan Vyas because he belonged to Krishna Varna and 'Dvaipayan' because he was born on an island in Yamuna. At a young age, he went to do penance in the Himalayas. He built his ashram at the place called Shamyapras in Tapobhumi Badri Forest. His ashram was in Badri, hence he was also called 'Badriyan'. In our country, on the day of Gurupurnima, along with the worship of Gurudev, Maharishi Vyas is also worshipped. Therefore, it is also called Vyas Purnima.

महर्षि वेदव्यास का जन्म द्वापर युग के अन्त में हुआ। वह महर्षि वशिष्ठ के प्रपौत्र व शक्ति ऋषि के पौत्र थे। उनके पिता पराशर मुनि व माता सत्यवती थीं। उन्हें कृष्ण दैपायन व्यास के नाम से भी जाना जाता है क्योंकि वह कृष्ण वर्ण के थे और 'द्वैपायन' इसलिए कि उनका जन्म यमुना के एक द्वीप पर हुआ था। अल्पायु में ही वे हिमालय में तपस्या करने चले गये। उन्होंने तपोभूमि बद्री वन में शम्याप्रास नामक स्थान पर अपना आश्रम बनाया। उनका आश्रम बद्री में था, इसलिए वे 'बाद्रीयण' भी कहलाए। हमारे देश में गुरुपूर्णिमा के दिन गुरुदेव की पूजा के साथ महर्षि व्यास की पूजा भी की जाती है। इसलिए उसे व्यास पूर्णिमा भी कहते हैं।

Vishwamitra, one of the great sages of the Indian Vedic period, was born in a Kanyakubja Brahmin family (Kanauj). He was the grandson of King Kushanabha of Amavasu dynasty and the son of King Kathi. His birth name was Vishwarath. He was a prajapriya, mighty and fiery king Kaushik before taking up the sage religion. On attaining Brahmanism from Kshatriyatva, he came to be called Vishwamitra. He is considered a contemporary sage of sages Vashistha and Bharadwaja. Vashistha Vishwamitra dispute The story of the dispute between King Kaushik (Vishwamitra) and Maharishi Vasistha is amazing. Kaushik was a great king. He was famous for his bravery and valor. Once he went out into the forest with his huge army. While roaming, they camped at one place. He was stunned to see other animals walking fearlessly in that dense forest with frightened wild animals, and there seemed to be no difference between them and they were moving freely together. The king was delighted to see the very calm atmosphere of that forest. He saw an ashram there. It was the ashram of Rishi Vashistha.

भारतीय वैदिक काल के महर्षियों में से एक विश्वामित्र का जन्म कान्यकुब्ज ब्राह्मण परिवार (कन्नौज) में हुआ था। वह अमावसू वंश के राजा कुशनाभ के पौत्र एवं राजा कथि के पुत्र थे। उनका जन्म का नाम विश्वरथ था। ऋषि धर्म धारण करने से पूर्व वह एक प्रजाप्रिय, पराक्रमी और तेजस्वी राजा कौशिक थे। क्षत्रियत्व से ब्राह्मणत्व प्राप्त करने पर उन्हें विश्वामित्र कहा जाने लगा। वह ऋषि वशिष्ठ एवं भारद्वाज ऋषि के समकालीन ऋषि माने जाते हैं।वशिष्ठ विश्वामित्र विवाद राजा कौशिक (विश्वामित्र) और महर्षि वशिष्ठ के बीच विवाद की कथा अद्भुत है। कौशिक एक महाप्रतापी राजा थे। वह अपने शौर्य एवं पराक्रम के लिए प्रसिद्ध थे। एक बार वे अपनी विशाल सेना के साथ वन में निकले। घूमते हुए उन्होंने एक स्थान पर डेरा डाला। उस घने जंगल में डरावने वन्य पशुओं के साथ अन्य पशुओं को निर्भीकता के साथ घूमते देख कर वे चकित रह गये लगता था कि उनमें परस्पर कोई वैरभाव नहीं था और वे सहज ही मिलजुल कर घूम रहे थे। उस वन के अत्यंत शांत वातावरण को देखकर राजा आनंदित हुए। उन्हें वहाँ एक आश्रम दिखायी दिया। वह वशिष्ठ ऋषि का आश्रम था।
